It just seems like Rolling Stone has it in for Chris or something. I say this because I was disappointed in their review of Scream. Not sure it was even a review. He mentioned 2 songs by name but didn’t really talk about them. This wasn’t so much a review as it was a Twitter post. It didn’t seem that much more than 140 characters. Back when it came out, their review for Carry On prompted me to write this.

Scream is a huge departure, sonically, from anything he has done before. I fully expect there to be some very disappointed Soundgarden and Audioslave fans. It took me a few songs before I was able to let go of my own expectations. I knew that Timbaland was producing. I knew that Chris was diving head first into the Pop arena. But I kept expecting drums and guitars with Timbaland’s magic on top. Even though I had already heard Scream, Ground Zero, and Watch Out. I thought all 3 of them were good and was looking forward to the album coming out. But listening to it this morning on the way to work, the reality hit me. But then I found myself really getting into it. I loved the non-stop flow of each song into the next. I enjoyed the whole album.

One of the main reasons I consider Chris Cornell my favorite rock singer and songwriter is his ability to tap into the pulse of Pop and infuse it with some sort of power. Chris Cornell has always been able to beat the shit out of you with a beautiful melody or uplifting chord-change. Hearing Seasons for the first time nearly blew my mind. Same is true for Black Hole Sun. After hearing all those awesome heavy riff-driven Soundgarden songs, Those songs convinced me that Cornell was way deeper than the band he was fronting.

So it was interesting to hear him bring balls with the soul he was providing for all of these electronic songs rather than bring some love and happiness into the testosterone-fueled riff machine that was Soundgarden, or the groove-tastic bed of sound that was Audioslave. I will probably do a song-by-song review of Scream soon. Unlike Christian Hoarde, I will give this album more than a casual listen.

Like most web designers and site builders that I know, I got sick of my website. I just got tired of looking at it and playing with it. I talked about it and talked about it but never really made time to do anything about it. So I said “Fuck it!” and exported my WordPress.org blog and imported it to my unused WordPress.com blog. Then I wiped my site clean and built a little “Under Construction” page. I killed it dead and enjoyed every minute of it.

Now there is more of a sense of urgency, combined with the already existing desire to change it. I’m excited to get started. This time around I’m going with ModX CMS. No offense WordPress. I still like you a lot. No really, I do. It’s not you, it’s me. You see, you just make it too easy for me. You do everything for me. I just don’t feel that I add much to this relationship.

That’s why I am going with ModX. It’s very powerful, versatile, and has much to offer. But it also grants me the opportunity to take things in as many direction as I see fit. ModX makes me look good while at the same time challenging me to learn and do things that I used to take for granted.

It’s been fun WordPress.org. I may see you around from time to time. I’m glad we can part on such good terms. I’ll tell your sibling WordPress.com you said “Hi!”.

Snow in Houston is a rarity. It doesn’t happen that often. When it does, it’s usually pretty weak and doesn’t last long at all. Well, this one didn’t last long but it was good while it lasted. In a short amount of time, most houses, yards and cars were already covered. ‘Twas a nice sight, even in the dark.

At my little corner of Houston, we are now starting to get consistent 30mph winds with gusts that are higher. No rain yet, but it’s coming. Galveston is now starting to really get beat up and the eye has not even hit yet.

One thing that makes me really happy….. I already had plywood! I bought some last summer just in case. Nice.

Anyway, all is good so far at the Minter household. Just some nice wind at this point. The real drama begins later tonight. Guess who will be up all night keeping and eye and ear on things. It’s all exciting and scary at the same time.

I’ll do some updates depending on how long I have power. I took some “before” pictures of our house all boarded up. Hopefully the “after” pictures will look the same!
